Because BLS for Attorneys’ work varies so much,
the hourly rate, payment due dates, and other terms also vary.
The hourly rate ranges from $25 per hour for the
lowest-order paralegal services to $50 per hour for the highest.
The rate at which BLS paralegal services should be able to be billed to the
bankruptcy clients, according to recent local bankruptcy court decisions on
paralegal hourly rates, is about $120 per hour. Ethical rules do not allow
non-attorney services to be paid on a contingent basis and in general do not
allow much creativity in the timing of payment.
BLS services must be paid upon being billed.
However, each project has its own timing characteristics and so the terms can
be negotiated project by project.
BLS commits to providing the attorney with a
written engagement agreement for each assigned project.
